MELLANOPOLY
THE SWEDISH PROPERTY TRADING BOARD GAME
where you aim to have roughly the same as everybody else
The Turnip is proud to bring you a sneak preview of an exciting new board game currently being developed by those board game boffins Waddingtons. Due to popular demand the game of Monopoly is being adapted for the Swedish market. Naturally, Waddingtons are sensitive to cultural difference and so have made some fundamental changes to their ageless classic.

RULES
For Two To Six Players

THE AIM OF THE GAME is to end up with roughly the same amount of wealth as all the other players.

One of the players is allocated BANKER whose role it is to distribute the money at the beginning of the game. Players should be given small numbered tickets and wait their turn to be seen by the Banker. The Banker should not operate after 3 o’clock in the afternoon, smile or offer any helpful advice to the players. Bank charges may apply.

The game begins at 7am sharp. No play should take place between 9 and 9.30, 14 and 14.30 (Fika) 12 and 13 (lunch) and July (sommar stängt).

RENT
Rents are strictly controlled and should not be altered. However, there is a possibity to rent out your property as ‘second’, ‘third’ and even ‘fourth’ hand apartments. In this case rent controls need not apply.

SUPER SUPER TAX
There are 7 TAX spaces on the board. If a player lands on this space he should expect to lose a minimum of HALF his past, current and future wealth, the wealth of his children, that of his wife and that of his ox.

CHANCE
Nothing should be left to chance. Take no averse risks.

COMMUNITY CHEST
This is a large, seemingly bottomless pit of cash that can either drain or flood your wealth status.

FREE PARKING
There is no Free Parking in Sweden

THERAPY
A player may find himself sent to therapy usually following ‘a good talking to’ or a ‘ticking off’. Once the prisoner, er, patient shows that they have a good chance of re-offending and committing a violent assault, they are released back into the game.

HOUSES
Players should aim to own two houses. One on the ‘staden’ board and a smaller one on the ‘landet’ board (not supplied). Mellanopoly comes equipped with lots of identical featureless houses that are in no way different from each other.

The game is complete when one or all of the players are caught squirrelling money away in a bank account in Dubai or the Channel Islands.
